Alexandria, Egypt - Three Years Earlier
The discoloration was barely visible. A faint change in the limestone where the tunnel curved, the kind of mark that twenty-five years of fieldwork had trained James Calloway to see.
He pressed his fingers against it. Cool. Rough. Except for one small area that felt smooth in a way nature never could produce. Human hands had shaped the stone, carved with a precision that spoke of first-century masonry. Whoever had created this hiding place understood that secrets, to survive, must hide in plain sight.
